NBA Holds Session On Diversity As Part Of BOG Meetings

The NBA last night held a session titled “Diversity & Respect: Business Values for the 21st Century” as part of BOG meetings in N.Y. The evening session featured a one-on-one with AmEx Chair & CEO Ken Chenault conducted by CNN’s John King. Another panel on the issue of diversity and respect was moderated by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer and included Institute for Diversity & Ethics in Sports Founder Richard Lapchick; Ken Mehlman, head of global public affairs at KKR and former campaign manager for President George W. Bush; Ariel Investments Chair & CEO John Rogers; and U.S. Fund for UNICEF President & CEO Caryl Stern.

The panel is part of the league’s ongoing emphasis on diversity and comes after the Donald Sterling controversy and, more recently, the expected sale of the Hawks after Majority Owner Bruce Levenson self-reported to the league a racially charged e-mail he wrote.
