Broncos Exec VP/Football Operations John Elway yesterday "broke down and needed to pause to compose himself several times" at a press conference as he reflected on Owner Pat Bowlen relinquishing ownership of the team (USA TODAY, 7/24).

The PGA Championship next month at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville "will include the return of the long drive competition, a practice-round event that was last held 30 years ago." The top three drivers will "split charitable prize money" of $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000 (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 7/24).

EPL club Aston Villa Owner Randy Lerner attended the team's exhibition game yesterday against FC Dallas at Toyota Park, the first time he has "been spotted at a Villa game in more than 18 months" since putting the club up for sale (BIRMINGHAM MAIL, 7/24).

A capacity crowd of more than 20,000 last night attended the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Eldora Speedway. The drivers “put on the spectacle these dirt-track fans have begged for and gotten in the second annual MudSummer Classic” (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 7/24).

Packers officials are expecting a crowd of more than 12,000 for today’s annual shareholders meeting at Lambeau Field. No formal special events are planned around the meeting, but “shareholders will get to see the new Packers Pro Shop and the re-landscaped Robert E. Harlan Plaza” (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 7/23).
