MLB Owners Could Make Replay Decision As Soon As Today

A formal decision for widespread use of instant replay in MLB beginning next season could arrive as soon as today following a presentation made yesterday by Braves President John Schuerholz and league execs Joe Torre and Tony La Russa to MLB's Exec Council. Schuerholz, Torre and La Russa, members of a replay subcommittee of MLB Commissioner Bud Selig's Special Committee for On-Field Matters, have been working for months on components of an expanded system.

Selig called the presentation "very thoughtful and well done," but declined to discuss the matter in more detail until after quarterly Owners Meetings in Cooperstown, N.Y., conclude later today. The full body of team owners will be briefed on the committee's recommendations this morning, with Selig adding the session will be "thorough."
