Birmingham Has No Deal In Place To Help Fund IndyCar Event

There is "no city agreement to provide funding" for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama despite the Izod IndyCar Series race being scheduled for Sunday in Birmingham, Al., and it will be "another two weeks before city officials finally resolve the question." Mayor William Bell yesterday withdrew a proposed four-year, $1.2M contract for the event at Barber Motorsports Park. City attorneys "advised the mayor that funding requests had not met" advertised requirements, so any request "must wait two weeks" (AL.com, 4/2).
