Florida Gulf Coast Makes Sweet 16, Basks In Cinderella Spotlight

The Florida Gulf Coast men's basketball team tonight will hold a pep rally between NCAA Tournament rounds at its home venue, Alico Arena (Mult., 3/24). FGCU, which plays Florida in the Sweet 16 on Friday, was "hardly known beyond its Fort Myers campus" before "seizing the tournament spotlight." Now they are "thriving in it" (USA TODAY, 3/25). FGCU coach Andy Enfield said, "Most people didn't know who we were before this week. Hopefully, by now they know what the initials FGCU stand for" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/25).

Under the header "FGCU Is What's Right In College Hoops,"'s Reid Forgrave writes, "They represent the naive and real joy of sports overpowering the money-printing machine that is the College Sports Industrial Complex."
