Grisly Injury To Rangers' Marc Staal Raises Issue Of Visors In NHL

The debate over NHL helmet visors "was renewed yet again" last night after Rangers D Marc Staal was "struck in the eye by a deflected puck" during a home game against the Flyers. A visor "might have better protected his eye and face." But Staal, like roughly 35% of NHL players, does not wear one, and they are not mandatory (NYTIMES.com, 3/6). The N.Y. POST's Larry Brooks writes not making visors mandatory is "insanity." Brooks: "This 'personal choice' position on the issue staked out by the PA is ... from another era" (N.Y. POST, 3/6).
