World Marathon Majors To Impose Tougher Doping Penalties

World Marathon Majors organizers today announced that "stricter anti-doping penalties will be applied to elite athletes" at the six WMM events. The Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, N.Y. and Tokyo marathons "have collectively revised their elite athlete contracts to include new provisions that include the right to suspend payment and demand repayments of prize money, appearance fees and performance bonuses." The men's and women's series winners each receive $500,000 in prize money at the end of a two-year cycle (REUTERS, 2/22).
