Big East Member Reps Meet Today To Chart Conference's Future

Reps of current and future Big East member schools will meet today in Dallas, where topics on their agenda include "an expansion strategy and a plan for the departure" of the seven Catholic non-FBS schools. Present will be "members left from the old Big East" with eight incoming members (HARTFORD COURANT, 1/11). San Diego State is expected to attend, making it "likely" that a decision on whether the school moves to the Big East or stays in the Mountain West "won't be made before next week" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 1/11).

ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel writes with the Catholic 7 "breaking off and possibly keeping the Big East name, it's only a matter of time before the league office leaves Providence for a more central, more football-oriented location" (ESPN.com, 1/10).
