MLS Battling Supporters Group Over Cascadia Cup Trademark

MLS officials are planning to meet with supporters groups for the Sounders, Timbers and Whitecaps "following a controversy over trademark rights to the Cascadia Cup." The league's intention to trademark the name of the competition between the teams, which dates back to before their inclusion in MLS, "has been met with impassioned resistance." The supporters groups have formed "a Cascadia Cup Council that will also pursue the rights of the trophy" (SEATTLE TIMES, 1/11).

Meanwhile, the MLS Dynamo announced that they have signed a multiyear radio partnership with Gow Media's KGOW-AM and KFNC-FM. Most of the team's games will air on KGOW, with select games being broadcast on KFNC "as the ESPN Radio affiliate's schedule allows." The deal includes a weekly "Dynamo All-Access" show debuting Jan. 21. Dynamo Communications Manager Matt Pederson will "return for a second season" as play-by-play announcer (CHRON.com, 1/11).
