Padres Sale Tops Agenda At MLB Owners Meeting In Denver

MLB owners today begin a two-day quarterly owners' meeting in Denver, with the agenda led by the pending sale of the Padres from John Moores to a group including former Dodgers Owner Peter O'Malley, several O'Malley family members, minority Owner Ron Fowler and golfer Phil Mickelson. The estimated $800M deal, including a minority stake in the new FS San Diego, resurrects a sale process that fell apart earlier this year when a bid by former Padres minority Owner & Vice Chair Jeff Moorad collapsed in the face of stiff owner opposition.

Several other hot-button league issues, including the lengthy Bay Area territorial saga involving the Giants and A's, are slated to be discussed informally but are not on the official agenda for tomorrow's general session.
