Sustainability Watchdog For '12 Games Set To Release Annual Review

The watchdog group Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 today will release its annual review, finding "good progress" has been made toward LOCOG's sustainability goals, but "major challenges" remain. For one, there is "no coherent strategy to achieve a 20% reduction in carbon emissions" after a wind turbine plan "proved impractical." The Commission also will ask the IOC to appoint an "ethics champion" for future Games that would have the task of "evaluating sponsors." This comes in the wake of the controversy over Dow sponsoring the Olympic Stadium wrap (GUARDIAN, 2/9).
