Full House In N.Y. For Baseball Assistance Team Fundraising Dinner

The Baseball Assistance Team drew a sellout crowd of 1,362 for its 23rd annual fundraising dinner last night in N.Y., marking the second straight year it has sold out the event. More than 100 current and former MLBers and 14 HOFers attended the dinner, which carried a theme of the 50th anniversary of the Mets franchise. SportsNet N.Y. analyst and former Mets P Ron Darling evoked teammate and HOFer Gary Carter, who is fighting inoperable brain cancer, in moving fashion. "When you're a player, you're often young and dumb, but he never was," Darling said of Carter. "He was everything we aspire to be."
