Populous has been selected as the lead architect for a new $400M arena in Quebec City, a facility local officials are marketing as the future home of an NHL team. Populous is on a team of five firms that won the job. Three are Canadian companies. Thornton-Tomasetti, a N.Y. structural engineer, is the fifth member of the team. The design contract is valued at C$18.9M, effective through the end of the project in ‘15, according to a news release. Icon Venue Group of Denver represents media company Quebecor, the arena developer that will operate the 18,000-seat building. There is currently no deal for an NHL team to move to Quebec City.
