ESPN Breaking Women's World Cup Campaign With Series Of Spots

ESPN's Women's World Cup campaign, via Wieden & Kennedy, will run through June 22
ESPN today will break its FIFA Women's World Cup marketing campaign with a series of spots "highlighting the U.S. team's biggest stars." The "Eleven vs. the World" effort, via Wieden & Kennedy, N.Y., will run through June 22, four days before the start of the tournament in Germany. The campaign  "aims to fill in the blanks between the 1999 World Cup, best known for Brandi Chastain's tournament-winning penalty kick, and this year's group, which is entering the tournament as the top-seeded team" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 6/6 issue).

Meanwhile, the U.S.-Mexico women's soccer game drew a "paltry crowd" of 5,852 at Red Bull Arena yesterday. The game marked the U.S. team's "final sendoff match" on home soil prior to the Women's World Cup (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 6/6).
