In an open letter to directors, Disney and Gold wrote, “While Mr. Eisner’s announcement at first blush looks like a major change, it is in truth more window dressing. LAUGH TRACK

THE MONOLOGUES:

NBC’s Jay Leno: “Did you hear that ’60 Minutes’ has a new policy? From now on, they’re going to spend at least 60 minutes verifying their stories. … Meanwhile, the White House is scrambling to bolster President Bush’s image. They’re now saying, ‘Yes, it’s true President Bush did not go to Vietnam, but he did attend an early screening of ‘Apocalypse Now.’’ Today, John Kerry unveiled his newest campaign slogan, ‘A mind is a terrible thing to make up.’ … Now the candidates are arguing about the exact format these presidential debates will take. Kerry wants to stand behind a podium. Bush wants to stand behind Dick Cheney. … People at the hospital said after Bill Clinton’s surgery they were excited, they were happy. In fact, the nurses said he really left his mark. … Winds were so strong in Cuba, they actually blew some guys who couldn’t play baseball into America. … According to Men’s Health magazine, one in nine men claim they’ve been dumped by women because of their love of football. In fact, nine of the ten men dumped didn’t even know the woman had left until after the Super Bowl” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 9/13).
