FINAL JEOPARDY QUESTION

Last night's "Final Jeopardy!" category was "The Oscars."

"One of only three movies to be nominated for both Best Picture and Best Foreign Language film in the same year."

LAUGH TRACK

THE MONOLOGUES:

NBC's Jay Leno: "It's 11:35, or as America West pilots call it, Happy Hour. ... Today, (America West) was named the official airline of the Betty Ford Center. ... (CA) now is in the middle of a heat wave that is just unbelievable.  In fact, the electric company here is in what they call a stage one alert.  You know what that is?  That means if there isn't a real power outage, the electric company will stage one. ... It was so hot (yesterday) I saw a cop in Inglewood beating an Eskimo kid. ... It was so hot (yesterday), baseball players (were) drinking steroid smoothies. ... It was so hot today Michael Jackson claimed the sun is racist. ... Earlier this week, President Bush gave the Medal of Freedom to baseball great Hank Aaron. ... Hank Aaron is considered the greatest hitter in baseball who is currently not frozen. ... In fact, that's Ted Williams new rap name, Ice Cube. ... (MLB) got involved (in the Ted Williams death controversy).  Bud Selig himself declared the whole Ted Williams thing a tie and said he's going to be stuffed. ... More and more talk about the use of steroids in baseball.  They said (last night) on the news ... that one of the side effects of taking steroids ... (is) shrinking of the male reproductive organ.  See, that's why baseball players are always grabbing themselves.  They're checking to make sure it's still there. ... Men and women had different opinions about the All-Star Game.  It's like sex.  Men are going, 'Look how long it lasted,' and women are going, 'Yeah, but there's no finish.' ... (Lakers C Shaquille O'Neal) said after his playing days are over he wants to become a policeman, which is ironic.  I mean, after he retires, he could still be guarding Allen Iverson. ... The heck with 'The Osbournes.'  I want to see 'The Iversons.'  That's the reality show I want to watch. ... Scientists say they have found a seven million-year old skull in Africa.  They say it's the oldest fossil ever found not currently on CBS" ("Tonight Show," NBC, 7/11).

The announcer on last night's edition of CBS' "The Late Show" introduced David Letterman as the "tennis-playing Williams brother."  Letterman: "It looks like Al Qaeda and Hamas could be merging. ... You know what this means?  I'll tell you what this means.  Higher long-distance rates. ... (The All-Star Game) ended in a tie.  It's baseball.  There's no clock on baseball.  Baseball doesn't end in a tie.  You can play a 100 innings.  Hell, you could play a million innings.  My bookie is so confused, he didn't know whether to beat me up or not. ... (Yesterday), the stock market hit a five-year low.  Thanks a lot, Martha. ... I get up (yesterday) morning and I'm watching the Martha Stewart show, and she's showing you how to properly thaw Ted Williams. ... Thank God, I heard earlier (yesterday) they've reached a compromise (between freezing and cremation of Ted Williams) -- room temperature" ("The Late Show," CBS, 7/11).

LATE NIGHT LAUGHS:

Shaquille O'Neal appeared on last night's edition of NBC's "Tonight Show" where Leno presented the ESPY Award for "Best NBA Player" because O'Neal was not present at the ESPY ceremonies.  O'Neal: "I'm taking courses in police science right now.  When it's all said and done I'd like to be the chief of police or sheriff somewhere."  Leno: "What kind of police work would you like to do, undercover work?"  O'Neal was asked about the Kings fans and said, "The Sacramento Kings are a great WNBA team" ("Tonight Show," NBC, 7/11).

THURSDAY NIGHT'S TV MONITOR

ESPN's 11:00pm ET "SportsCenter" led with 76ers G Allen Iverson's legal troubles.
