CALLAWAY GOLF ENDS LAWSUIT OVER ERC II DRIVER

The SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE reported that Callaway Golf has dropped a lawsuit against the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) over its ERC drivers, "perhaps signaling a softening in Callaway’s resolve to battle golf’s rule makers." Originally, Callaway had sought damages from RCGA over its ban of ERC drivers in tournament play. In the settlement "neither side admitted wrongdoing or paid damages." Sales of the ERC II golf club "have faded in recent months as 1,200 golf retailers refuse to sell the controversial club," causing Callaway to cut its 2Q sales forecast (SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE, 8/11).

RED SOX SALE ENTERS FINAL ROUNDS THIS WEEK

Cablevision Chair Charles Dolan’s "eye popping wealth" competes against Boston Concessions Group’s Joseph O’Donnell and mall developer Stephen Karp, who "appear to have enough political, corporate and baseball connections to top all the other bidders combined." A group headed by Hollywood producer Tom Werner "may yet turn out to be the dark horse of the bidding" (BOSTON HERALD, 8/12).

AOL READIES FOR ANOTHER ROUND OF JOB CUTS

The N.Y. POST reported that AOL Time Warner "is gearing up for a round of aggressive staff cuts…to meet its annual revenue targets in a slumping market." This would be the third time this year for layoffs in the company, with "experts estimat[ing] up to 1,000 people" losing their jobs (N.Y. POST, 8/11).
