New NFL Films Doc Explores Legendary "Ice Bowl" From Cowboys' Point Of View

A new NFL Films documentary on the famous '67 Ice Bowl debuts Friday at 8:00pm ET on NFL Network and takes a "more Dallas-centric view than usual," according to Richard Ryman of the GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE. The film, "The Timeline: The Ice Bowl," was directed by Michael Meredith, the son of late Cowboys QB Don Meredith. The Packers defeated the Meredith-led Cowboys 21-17, and the film "looks at how the game affected his family and the Cowboys." It reveals that "losing back-to-back championship games to the Packers weighed heavily" on Don Meredith. The film opens with Meredith's former wife, Cheryl King, and Bart Starr's wife, Cherry, talking about "how the Ice Bowl changed their lives, but with very different meanings." The long list of interviewees includes many Packers and Cowboys players from the game (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 12/27). In Dallas, Michael Granberry wrote the film is a "keeper." It is one fans will "want to record" and "never let disappear." Granberry noted Michael Meredith also "hopes to complete a feature-length documentary on the 1960s Cowboys" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 12/27). Sunday marks the 50th anniversary of the game, and the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL offers an oral history of the game.
