Raiders In Negotiations To Build Las Vegas Practice Facility Near Henderson Airport

The Raiders are in "negotiations to build their Southern Nevada practice facility on a vacant 55-acre lot west of the Henderson Executive Airport," according to a front-page piece by Michael Davidson of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. The city acquired the property in January '15 "through a land swap." Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak said, "The best of my understanding is that they have narrowed it down to that site." Raiders President Marc Badain yesterday declined to comment, but said that details about the team's practice facility and HQ site "should be made public before the end of the year." Ground was broken Monday night on the Raiders' $1.9B, 65,000-seat domed stadium. Minneapolis-based Mortenson Construction and McCarthy Building Cos. have been "hired to build the stadium located adjacent to the Strip" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 11/15).

ON A HEATER: The AP's Tim Dahlberg writes following Monday night's official groundbreaking, Las Vegas is "on the kind of roll with major league sports that a craps player at Caesars Palace could only dream of." The Golden Knights began play last month as the city's first major professional franchise, the NBA "practically spends" its summers there and MGM Resorts purchased the WNBA Stars with the intent of them beginning play in Las Vegas in '18. The city is also the "home of UFC and almost every big boxing match." And NASCAR will hold "not just one, but two," of its Monster Energy Cup races in Las Vegas next year. Dahlberg: "But it's the NFL that changes everything." Once again, Las Vegas "rolled the dice and somehow came up a winner" (AP, 11/15).
