Serena Williams Announced As Chair Of Advisors For Verizon's Digital Media Entity Oath

Oath today announced SERENA WILLIAMS will serve as Chair of a global Board of Advisors for the company, which is Verizon’s new combined media entity for AOL and Yahoo. Williams and Oath CEO TIM ARMSTRONG appeared on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” to discuss her role, with Armstrong saying Williams and the other board members "hopefully will have a really big imprint on the future of where the company is going, both in terms of the content we're doing, the advertising, but more importantly, really the culture of the company.” Armstrong said Williams was the first choice for the Chair position and company officials have "spent a bunch of time with her over the last six months” preparing for the announcement. Armstrong: “All the people on the board are generally world-class at one thing you probably know them for. But I’d say second of all they’re known as great business people, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, people who also want to change the world. I think Serena embodies that.” Williams said, “Having an opportunity to be chairwoman was something really exciting for me. In this tech world, it's really about just expanding and equality, and bringing diversity which is something I’ve really been talking about and trying to do a lot more. Oath really represents that” ("Squawk Box," CNBC, 11/6). Other sports figures on the Board of Advisors include former WNBAer TAMIKA CATCHINGS, golfer RICKIE FOWLER, NASCAR driver JOEY LOGANO, former USWNT member ABBY WAMBACH and Seahawks QB RUSSELL WILSON (THE DAILY).
