Ken Rosenthal Details Planned Marriage Proposal By Carlos Correa After Game 7

Astros SS Carlos Correa last night proposed to his girlfriend on live TV, and plan was "outlined" by Correa shortly after Game 5 this past Sunday, according to Ken Rosenthal of THE ATHLETIC. Rosenthal: "The reporter in me thought immediately, 'Wow, this will be a big deal, a cool moment, great TV.'" Rosenthal told Correa that he "would be honored." But then Rosenthal "started thinking" about how they would "pull it off." Rosenthal told Correa that he would "need to find out how the network could make" it happen. Fox' coverage of a World Series celebration "almost always comes off well, but it can be a little chaotic when you’re in the middle of it." Rosenthal: "How would a marriage proposal fit into all this? I had no idea." Rosenthal on Monday spoke with Fox producer Carol Langley and asked her if what Correa was thinking "would be feasible." Langley suggested it happen "right after the trophy presentation." Rosenthal on Tuesday spoke with Fox producer Pete Macheska and they "started getting into details." If the Astros won, they "would not include Correa" in an on-field interview, as they "normally might." They also would "not inform anyone involved with the post-game show" about the plan, because they wanted to "elicit a genuine reaction." Macheska also suggested Rosenthal "ask Correa a few baseball questions before leading him into the proposal, so the whole thing would not look staged." Rosenthal: "Several hours before Game 6,... I told Correa that we were good to go." Rosenthal: "As the trophy presentation was about to start, Correa caught my eye from the stage. I motioned to him that I would meet him at the side of the stage after the ceremony ended" (THEATHLETIC.com, 11/2).

LOVE & MARRIAGE: SI's Joe Sheehan tweeted, "By the looks of it, Correa's engagement ring cost more than the 2012 #Astros roster." CNN's Ana Navarro tweeted Correa "just raised the bar sky-high on marriage proposals." The independent MLB Roundup feed: "Correa can now say this was the best day of his life and not get in trouble by his future wife." MLB.com's Jessica Kleinschmidt: "Correa gets engaged and Verlander/Upton wedding is this weekend in Italy. Thanks baseball for reminding the world how single we are." Correa's proposal was featured on the Twitter Moments feed.
