Walking To New Orleans: Saints Pay Tribute To Fats Domino By Wearing Helmet Decal

The Saints honored late musician Fats Domino by "wearing a 'Fats' decal on the back of their helmets" during their game yesterday against the Bears, according to Herbie Teope of the New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE. Domino, who died last week, was a lifelong New Orleans resident, and Saints coach Sean Payton "felt strongly enough about Domino's death that he also ensured his staff and players appreciated Domino's impact on music throughout the week, including playing songs during practice" (New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE, 10/30). In Ft. Worth, Stefan Stevenson notes it is "not clear if the Saints just made the executive decision" to wear the decal "without going through the NFL." However, when the Cowboys "went through the proper league channels to receive permission to wear 'Arm In Arm' decals" in August '16, the NFL "denied the request." The decals were supposed to "promote unity between members of the Dallas community and its police officers in the wake of the death of five officers during a mass shooting in downtown Dallas" in July '16 (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 10/30).
