Expansion San Diego NLL Team Takes On "Seals" Moniker, Unveils Color Scheme, Logo

San Diego's expansion NLL team yesterday announced its name as the Seals and also "unveiled its purple, black, gold and gray logo," according to Kevin Acee of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. The Seals begin play in '18 at the Valley View Casino Center, and team President Steve Govett said the club "wanted a name that was inherent to San Diego." Acee notes the logo, which "features a seal that is both ferocious and adorable wearing a trident as a crown, also owes to lacrosse’s history." The shield background is "reminiscent of a lacrosse stick," and the gold "brings to mind the sunshine of San Diego." Purple is the "primary color of the Iroquois, a nod to lacrosse’s Native American roots." The name "was chosen" by team Owner Joe Tsai. The Seals also have "unveiled a slogan -- Surfacing Soon" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 10/25).
