Louisville Names Local Businessman Vince Tyra Interim AD With Jurich On Administrative Leave

USL club Louisville City FC investor Vince Tyra yesterday was selected as the Univ. of Louisville's interim AD, "less than one week" after Tom Jurich was placed on administrative leave amid the FBI investigation into college basketball, according to a front-page piece by Sayers & Greer of the Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL. UL's BOT will "decide whether to retain" Jurich, who has been the AD for "about two decades, in the coming weeks." Tyra will play a "key role in helping Louisville navigate an NCAA infractions appeal." UL interim President Greg Postel said that he hopes the appeal is "resolved by January." Tyra said that he also will be "asked to work with Adidas to manage their ongoing partnership in the wake of last week's news." Tyra: "I'm just taking it as I'm filling the role for now until we find out what the long-term fix is." Sayers & Greer note Tyra is a member of the UL Foundation's board and serves as Operating Partner at Connecticut-based private equity firm Southfield Capital (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 10/4). In Louisville, Lerner & Sayers write Tyra is described as a "passionate and savvy business leader." Tyra said that he "previously kept a 'low profile' but now intends to act as a sounding board for coaches and student-athletes" at UL. There is "no set timetable for how long Tyra will be in the interim position" (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 10/4). Tyra said that he was "first contacted last week about the possibility and met with Postel in his suite" during UL's win over Murray State on Saturday at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium (ESPN.com, 10/3).
