Brother Of Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen To Sell 30-35% Minority Interest In Team

Full ownership of the Broncos "may not remain in the Bowlen family much longer," as John Bowlen, the younger brother of Owner Pat Bowlen, is "looking to sell his minority interest in the team," according to Nicki Jhabvala of the DENVER POST. A source said that Bowlen's minority interest "is roughly" 30-35%. The impetus for selling is out of a "desire to preserve Pat Bowlen's legacy and because of dissatisfaction with the perceived execution of the succession plan." There is said to be "no animosity between John Bowlen or the team over the matter." John Bowlen said, "My brother Pat's leadership has been greatly missed." Jhabvala notes John Bowlen "does not have a vote in the daily operation of the team and a sale of his interest would not affect the broader transition for Pat's majority interest; his children will receive equal stake and one is still in line to be elected controlling owner." Broncos President & CEO Joe Ellis said, "As it relates to Pat Bowlen's controlling interest of the team, it is not for sale" (DENVER POST, 10/2).
