Media Notes

In N.Y., Billy Witz notes the Yankees and Red Sox will "meet 10 times in 23 days," and as of now, "two of the games will be broadcast on ESPN, one on Fox, another on TBS and five on MLB Network." It will be "almost like old times," with some of  this season's compelling story lines being "pushed to the side while the Yankees and the Red Sox go at it, and go at it some more" (N.Y. TIMES, 8/8).

OUT OF THE BOX
: BLOOMBERG NEWS' Reade Pickert wrote a digital or OTT viewing option is a "smart bet on the future" for the NLL and "other small sports." While moves by niche sports to online streaming "aren’t likely to threaten traditional outlets like ESPN, the business models these leagues are establishing may be a window into the future of sports broadcasting." NLL CMO Ashley Dabb said that with NLL TV available "around the clock, the league has more to offer to advertisers, which has increased sales and sponsorships" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 8/4).

DON'T BE A DOPE: In Denver, Kevin Simpson noted U.S. anti-doping officials "raised concerns" Friday that Lance Armstrong's plans to "create podcasts at next week's Colorado Classic could violate his ban from the sport and threaten sanctioning for the event." The sticking point is "not Armstrong's 'Stages' podcasts per se, but a formalized relationship with an event organizer that could put him in violation of the ban" (DENVER POST, 8/5).
