Pacers Unveil New Uniforms For '17-18 Season, Receiving Mixed Reactions From Fans

The Pacers during a fan fest on Friday "unveiled new uniforms for next season, along with a new home-court floor design," according to Clifton Brown of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. Five Pacers players were at the event "showing off both the white and navy blue versions" of the uniforms. The change is "part of the NBA’s new uniform agreement with Nike." But the uniforms were "quickly critiqued on Twitter," and reviews from fans "were mixed." The Pacers’ new court at Bankers Life Fieldhouse will "feature a logo shaped like the state of Indiana adjacent to each free throw lane." Along one sideline, there will also be a "new logo that reads, 'We Grow Basketball Here'" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 7/29). CBSSPORTS.com's Chris Barnewall noted the team put "both city and nickname on the front" of the new home and away jersey in a circular design, "surrounding the number." While the primary color "takes up the entirety of the front and back, the sides are more stylized." It is an "interesting mix of clean and busy" (CBSSPORTS.com, 7/29). In Indianapolis, Dakota Crawford noted it had been 12 years since the Pacers "adopted a new look" (INDYSTAR.com, 7/28).

Blazers tweaks included removing the colored
bordering that used to surround lettering
GOING CLASSIC: In Portland, Joe Freeman noted the Trail Blazers "unveiled a new iteration of uniforms" over the weekend, "revealing a cleaner, leaner and sleeker version of a look that has become iconic." The franchise "hosted two studies" -- one in '13 and another in '15 -- to "explore how fans felt about their team's identity and brand." It became "clear most people liked the Blazers' classic look and weren't interested in wholesale changes." They "loathed the idea of tweaks to the team's primary colors, they loved the 'Blaze'" -- the distinctive horizontal stripes across the chest -- and they "longed for the classic pinwheel logo." The design changes "were subtle." The fonts for player names and uniform numbers have been "updated and italics have been completely removed." The "colored bordering that used to surround 'BLAZERS' and 'PORTLAND' has been removed, leaving a cleaner appearance." The pinwheel logo has been "moved from the front to the side of the right leg of the shorts and stripes stretch down the left leg" (Portland OREGONIAN, 7/30).
