Kentucky Basketball Doubles Price For Student Tickets In Hopes Of Increasing Attendance

Kentucky yesterday announced a move to "double the price students must pay" for tickets to men's basketball games next season, a move the school hopes will make students "more motivated" to attend, according to Jerry Tipton of the LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER. UK Dir of Strategic Communications Guy Ramsey said, "We want to make sure that when our students, when they make the decision to buy, that it is an intentional decision. That they’re going to plan to come to the games.” Student sections are the "first place to look for empty seats at Kentucky home games." UK students have been paying $5 per ticket for home games, and the price "will increase to $10 next season." Ramsey said that it is the "first price increase for UK student tickets" since the late '90s. UK also announced a $5 price increase per game for "all season tickets next season," marking the "first price increase for non-student tickets in two seasons." Non-student season tickets "cost $950 for upper level seats, and $1,140 for lower level seats last season." In '17-18, the price "will be $1,100 for an upper- and $1,300 for a lower-level seat" (LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER, 7/25).
