People & Personalities: Tony Romo, CBS Collaborating To Make Booth Transition Smooth

Tony Romo said he and CBS have "basically mapped out" a weekly schedule in an effort to ensure he is comfortable beginning his new NFL analyst role in the fall. Romo: "I've started doing the practice games. I do these little daily things in Dallas, just little run-throughs and practice sessions -- how to feel, look, how to think. And it's been good. I feel a lot more comfortable now than when I started, but I've still got a ways to go" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/24).

BART IN BRISTOL?
In N.Y., Bob Raissman noted Bart Scott is "coming back strong" after being replaced by Nate Burleson on CBS' "The NFL Today." Scott two weeks ago "turned in a commanding performance" on ESPN's "Mike & Mike," and last Monday "gasbagged it up" on ESPN's "First Take." Raissman: "It sure seems like Scott could be heading for a substantial role at ESPN" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/23).

VETERAN PRESENCE
: In Dallas, Barry Horn noted Cowboys radio play-by-play voice Brad Sham just embarked on "his 38th trip to Cowboys training camp," where only national scout Walt Juliff and Video Dir Robert Blackwell "rival him for number of tours of duty." Sham "could be considered the dean of NFL radio play-by-play announcers." He joined the Cowboys radio team in midseason '76, "working color during road games." He also "worked the pregame and postgame shows as well as the half-time report." Sham then "made his switch to play-by-play" in '84 but missed the '95-97 seasons with the Cowboys when he "tiptoed into the [MLB] Rangers broadcast booth" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/22).

NOTES
: NESN Red Sox analyst Jerry Remy said he is "turning the corner" on recovery from lung cancer surgery. Remy "will await medical clearance." However, Remy said that he "hopes to be able to do some games" in August (BOSTON GLOBE, 7/23)....Longtime NBA writer Peter Vecsey has returned after a five-year absence to contribute to Patreon.com (THE DAILY).
