Digital Sports Media Continues To See Downward Trend In Audience, Consumption

Digital sports media in June extended its yearlong decline in consumption and reach according to monthly multiplatform data from comScore. The sports category posted a total audience of 173.9 million, down 0.2% from May and down 2% from June of last year. The average consumption of 88.3 minutes per user was also down 3.8% from May and down 21% from June of last year. The downward trend in digital sports media consumption follows similar declines in every month this year with the exception of March. ESPN led all sports entities for the 10th straight month and the 39th time in the last 40 months with a reach total of 76.4 million unique visitors, up slightly from May. ESPN also led in consumption with an average of 59.6 minutes per user, closely followed by MLB’s 56.5 minutes per user.
