NFL Jets Asking State For Permission To Build Private Helipad At Practice Facility

The NFL Jets are seeking approval from the state of New Jersey to "build a private helipad" at their football practice facility in Florham Park, but neighbors are "no fans of the plan," according to Ted Sherman of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. Local residents are already "beginning a petition drive to keep the Jets grounded." Florham Park Development in a filing said that the helipad would "not be open for public use, but would be equipped for day and night operations, with landings expected several times during the week during the summer months." The nearby borough of Madison, which had "opposed the earlier application, has lodged new objections to the Jets' request in a separate filing with the state." Noting the "close proximity of Morristown Airport, they questioned the need for a landing facility" (NJ.com, 7/10).
