Flying Solo? Memphis Airport Could Need New Spokesperson If Allen Leaves Grizz

Memphis Int'l Airport "could be in the market for a new celebrity pitchman" if the Grizzlies lose G Tony Allen in free agency, according to Wayne Risher of the Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL. The airport "doesn’t have another player lined up for the role, but its marketing partnership with the Grizzlies will continue with or without Allen." Airport marketing firm Red Rover hired Allen for $44,000 a year in '15 as "part of a three-year, $530,000 partnership with the Grizzlies." Allen’s likeness is "splashed all over the airport, and he appears in numerous videos" (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 7/7).
