Former Fox Sports Chair DAVID HILL has been named the '17 recipient of the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award. Hill will be honored at the Pro Football HOF enshrinement ceremony in Canton on Aug. 5. Hill is the first exec to win the award since late ABC Sports President ROONE ARLEDGE (Pro Football HOF).

Williams' cover story describes the intricate plan of her engagement proposal in Italy
A MODEST PROPOSAL: A Vanity Fair cover story describes the engagement between SERENA WILLIAMS and Reddit co-Founder ALEXIS OHANIAN. It was an "intricate and tactical plan, several months in the making," and involved WME-IMG Senior VP JILL SMOLLER and designer TOMMY HILFIGER. The plan was for a proposal at the Cavalieri hotel in Rome, where the couple first met. After some changes to the plan, Williams made her way to Italy, where Ohanian took Williams "downstairs to the same table by the pool area where they had first met." No one else was there, since the hotel, at Ohanian's instruction, had "cleared everyone else out"(VANITY FAIR, 8/'17 issue).

NEW VENTURE: Pro Football HOFer EMMITT SMITH will be opening a “new sports merchandise store at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.” Yesterday the airport’s concessions committee “approved a lease for Emmitt Smith Sports to be located at Terminal C’s gate 27.” The store is “expected to open next year.” Smith’s firm, HG-Emmitt DFW P7, has also “invested in two other new concessions in Terminal C that will open next year: a Hudson newsstand and a MAC store” (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 6/28). Meanwhile, Smith is “leaving his real estate brokerage company, but he plans to remain active in the real estate business.” Smith and two partners formed Dallas-based E Smith Realty Partners four years ago (DALLASNEWS.com, 6/27).
