Big Baller Brand Unveils Lakers-Colored Shoe After Team Picks Lonzo Ball

The Lakers took UCLA G Lonzo Ball with the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday night, and as his selection was being announced, Ball "removed the dress shoes he'd worn into the building and changed into a pair of purple and gold" Big Baller Brand sneakers, according to Tania Ganguli of the L.A. TIMES. LaVar Ball, Lonzo's dad, following the Lakers' later first-round selections, "threw his purple and gold Big Baller Brand cap" into a crowd of booing fans "before leaving to meet Lonzo" (L.A. TIMES, 6/23). Lonzo Ball said of his shoes, "I had them on after Markelle (Fultz) got picked. I had a good feeling I was going to be staying home. I'm glad that they picked me because I didn't have any other shoes under the table" (ESPN.com, 6/22). In L.A., Samantha Valtierra notes both Lonzo and LaVar "wore BBB ties for the formal event." BBB also "unveiled a Lakers-colored version of their Lonzo Ball 'ZO2s' sneaker." The Lakers version of the sneaker is called the "SHO'TIME" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 6/23).

PLAYING A NEW BALL GAME: THE UNDEFEATED's Aaron Dodson writes Lonzo Ball did not leave the Barclays Center floor after being picked by the Lakers until "completing three interviews: two on camera and one for radio." He then "made his way to the interview room, where he spoke to reporters about the feeling of being drafted." He "walked back and forth between rooms in the bowels of Barclays, flanked by both Lakers and NBA communications reps." Next up was a "phone call with the front office of his new team." After "commencing a flurry of interviews," Lakers Dir of Media Relations Alison Bogli told Ball, "You've got a longgggg night of media ahead of you." Dodson notes Ball the conducted interviews with ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," Spectrum SportsNet LA, ABC, CBS, Pac-12 Network, The Vertical, SiriusXM NBA Radio, Cisco International, China’s Tencent Media and had a "one-on-one with Jr. NBA reporter Max Bonnstetter." NBA Communications Officer Kelly Williams "kept crossing outlets off her list, only to send him somewhere else." In between interviews, Ball "stopped by the gifting room, where he accepted a brand-new Tissot watch, took photos and videos for the NBA's social media feeds and partook in a Q&A with fans on the Lakers' Twitter account" (THEUNDEFEATED.com, 6/23).
