Kansas Planning $300M Upgrades To Memorial Stadium, Other Football-Related Projects

Univ. of Kansas AD Sheahon Zenger on Wednesday said that a renovation of Memorial Stadium and other football-related projects totaling $300M are right "around the corner," according to Bobby Nightengale of the LAWRENCE JOURNAL WORLD. Zenger said that architects will "complete their renderings of the stadium’s renovation in three weeks, and the final version is expected to be released to the public in September." Along with renovations to the stadium, Zenger "announced plans for an indoor football facility that the team can practice in." KU football coach David Beaty said that the indoor practice facility will be "crucial" for the program to "keep up with rival programs in their ongoing 'facility war'" (LAWRENCE JOURNAL WORLD, 6/22). Beaty said, “That guy (Zenger) has done so much here, and for him to clear the deck and really make room for football right now -- and he’s a football guy at heart -- knowing that our fans deserve a really, really nice stadium ... we want these people to be comfortable and really enjoy their time there.” In K.C., Jesse Newell noted Wednesday’s proclamation "comes one month after Zenger emphasized the importance of football following the signing of his three-year contract extension." The move forward for renovations "appears to be a significant step, as KU officials have considered a Memorial Stadium overhaul for more than a decade" (K.C. STAR, 6/22).

CHASING WATERFALLS
: SB NATION's Morgan Moriarty noted Arkansas State on Thursday unveiled new renovations to the north end zone of Centennial Bank Stadium, which will "include waterfalls that will sit on both sides." In addition to the new water features, there is "premium box seating in the end zones that will include food, non-alcoholic beverages, access to two cash bars, and private restrooms." Arkansas State fans will also be "able to purchase Tailgate Promenade ticket options, which include parking spots that have their own tents" (SBNATION.com, 6/22).
