Toyota Stadium Upgrades Exceed Budget, But FC Dallas Owners To Pay $15M Difference

The price tag for renovations to FC Dallas' Toyota Stadium has exceeded its $40M budget "once again," but the club's owners have "committed to kicking in" the extra $15M, according to Valerie Wigglesworth of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Changes and upgrades to the project, which "includes space" for the National Soccer HOF, have "bumped the total costs" to more than $58.4M. The original agreement called for $40M from the city of Frisco, Frisco Economic Development Corp., Frisco Community Development Corp. and Frisco ISD. FC Dallas, in turn, will pay an extra $1M in rent for the city-owned stadium each year through '37 to "help fund the upgrades." Last summer, when construction costs "were soaring," project estimates came in $16M "over budget." FC Dallas President Dan Hunt and his brother, Owner Clark Hunt, "ordered some major design changes to get costs back in line." This time, the Hunts are "committed to paying the difference to be able to include all the extras they want." Still under construction is the "revamped south end of the stadium that will include new locker rooms with separate field-level tunnel entrances, more club seats with a patio area and a new team store." Hunt said that "two more giant video boards will be added to the south end." The HOF museum will "feature 11 separate interactive elements" and will "give a nod to youth soccer." Dan Hunt said that the museum is "expected to hold its grand opening with an induction ceremony" in the fall of '18 (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6/22).
