Lonzo Ball Among NBA Prospects In Foot Locker's New Comedic Father's Day Spot

Foot Locker today ahead of Father's Day released a comedic new spot focused on memories NBA Draft prospects have of their fathers. Prospects De'Aaron Fox, Jonathan Isaac and Jayson Tatum all make appearances with memories of their fathers, but Lonzo Ball highlights uniquely comical moments he has shared with his outspoken father, LaVar. The spot will air on ESPN during next Thursday's Draft telecast and is part of Foot Locker's "Approved" platform via BBDO, N.Y. (Foot Locker). The spot was widely praised on Twitter. Campus Sports Net’s Josh Sanchez wrote it is “hands down the best Father’s Day ad.” Barstool Sports’ official account noted the ad “did the impossible” in making viewers “like the Ball Family.” College basketball writer Dana O'Neil: "Credit to @ZO2_ and @Lavarbigballer for being able to poke fun at themselves and not take everything so seriously." The Ringer’s Rodger Sherman: “I’m guessing you’re not gonna be able to buy Big Baller Brand gear at Foot Lockers.” The AP’s Jon Krawczynski: “Seriously, though. Betting that Footlocker ad resonates with some teams. Self-awareness is big. Smart move by Lonzo Ball.”

SIGN OF THE TIMES
: ESPN.com's Darren Rovell reported LaVar Ball has signed an "autograph deal" with Leaf Trading Cards that includes 200 cards signed "with his name and face on them." Leaf CEO Brian Gray said that the cards go on sale this afternoon on eBay at a "fixed price of $59.95." Each card is "inscribed with one of Ball's sayings," including, "Lonzo better than Steph Curry!" and "Stick to donuts, Chuck!" When a person clicks to buy a card, "he or she will not know which phrase it features." Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed (ESPN.com, 6/13).
