Audience Analysis: Univision Wraps Up Best Liga MX Season Yet; Coke 600 Down Again

Univision averaged 2.73 million viewers for the last leg of the Liga MX Clausura final on Sunday night, which featured Chivas securing the title over Tigres UANL. That audience marks the second-best Clausura (spring season) championship on record for Liga MX. The audience was up from 2.55 million viewers last year for the second leg of the final featuring Pachuca-Monterrey. The final also helped Univision to its best Liga MX season audience ever (1.11 million viewers for '16-17 full season).

EMPTY CARBS: Fox on Sunday night averaged 4.64 million viewers for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600, marking the race’s lowest audience in at least a decade, and likely on record. The race, which began at 6:00pm ET and then had a rain delay from 8:00-9:45pm, did not conclude until 12:30am. Still, that audience is lower than the ’09 race (5.32 million viewers), which had to be run on Memorial Day (Monday) afternoon due to a rainout. Last year’s race drew 5.73 million viewers.

SECOND VERSE: NBCSN on Wednesday night drew 3.18 million viewers for the Penguins’ 4-1 win over the Predators in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, up 27% from 2.51 million viewers for Penguins-Sharks Game 2 last season. Prior to ’16, Game 2 of the Final aired on NBC (broadcast TV).

ENGLISH ON IT: Fox on Saturday morning drew 836,000 viewers for Arsenal’s win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final, down 18% from the Manchester United-Cyrstal Palace matchup last year (1.02 million viewers), but up slightly from Arsenal-Aston Villa two years ago (809,000 viewers).
