Mike Drop: Golic Refutes Reports Of Friction With Greenberg, Calls Relationship "Fine"

ESPN's Mike Golic last week said that the reported off-air/off-camera drama between him and Mike Greenberg is "embellished and unattributed," according to Eric Hansen of the SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE. Reports of friction between the hosts of long-running ESPN Radio show "Mike & Mike" bubbled up earlier this month, but Golic said, "Greeny and I have talked. Greeny and I are fine. In all honesty, I had more of a problem and was a little disappointed that people that work on my show would anonymously throw stuff out there. I’m not a big fan of the anonymous thing." Greenberg begins his new TV show in January and "Mike & Mike" is slated to air until December, though that end date could be moved up. Golic said, “It could be as early as September. It could be as late as December. A lot of it probably has to do with (commercial) sales, what’s already sold for me and Greeny, I would imagine. I think for the sake of the show, it should start before football starts, but they didn’t ask me.” He said it has been "tough to talk about the end of the show on air ... because we don’t know when the end of the show’s going to be." Golic: "Why get nostalgic in May when we may be doing the show another six months?" (SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE, 5/26).

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS: In Nevada, Darrell Moody wrote he does not believe Greenberg is "strong enough to carry his own show," and the chemistry between he and Golic is "why the show has lasted so long." Moody: "ESPN and Greenberg botched this one to be sure." However, viewers and listeners "wouldn't know" Greenberg and Golic reportedly "didn't like each other" based on how they currently are working together. Moody: "Both are being professional on the air" (NEVADA APPEAL, 5/29).
