Sports Business Awards: NBC Sports Group Wins Best In Digital Sports Media

Based primarily on the strength of its performance during the Rio Games, NBC Sports Group won the award for Best in Digital Sports Media. “It was 4,500 hours, 50 concurrent streams, 2,000 distinct streams,” said NBC Sports Group Exec VP & GM of Digital Media Rick Cordella. "It wasn't just about trying to deliver technologically. We also had to make the content digestible for users to get to what they want to get to and promote the things that are important, deliver an audience back to our advertisers. It’s a Herculean effort. But it was fun. We loved being there. But it was chaotic.” In his acceptance speech on stage, Cordella thanked NBC’s league partners along with NBC’s TV production unit. “We’re just a lens for their award-winning work,” he said on stage. Cordella expounded on that point backstage. “We’re trying to do different things and understand what the consumer wants -- what’s going to resonate with them and make them come back to us more often and watch for longer periods of time,” Cordella said. “You have guys like our executive team that gives us the money and the resources to invest in the business and grow out.”
