The Blackhawks and NHL yesterday announced more details about NHL Draft festivities, "including the NHL Draft Fan Fest featuring entertainment and interactive exhibits outside the arena," according to Chris Hine of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. The fan fest will "run in conjunction with the draft, the first round of which will be a made-for-prime-time event June 23 followed by the remaining six rounds the next day." When Chicago was announced as host in February '16, Blackhawks Chair Rocky Wirtz said that the team "might be able to plan events around the city, but the only events scheduled downtown are media tours and promotional events for the top prospects." Mayor Rahm Emanuel has said that the Draft would "not come at a cost to taxpayers as the city would find resources to help defray the security costs." The fan fest will "include photo opportunities with current and former Hawks, live music and the NHL's Centennial Arena." NHL Exec VP & Chief Content Officer Steve Mayer said a "significant artist" will be holding a concert. However, Mayer "wouldn't divulge who it would be." Draft ticket holders will "receive a pass to fan fest via mail, but a draft ticket is not necessary to attend fan fest" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 5/25).
