ESPN Extends Contract For College Basketball Analyst Dick Vitale Through '19-20 Season

ESPN yesterday announced a contract extension for longtime college basketball analyst Dick Vitale through the '19-20 season. Vitale will continue to be the main analyst on the net's top college games, including regular-season contests primarily on ESPN and ESPN2. This agreement adds an additional year to Vitale's previous deal, announced last June, which extended Vitale into his 41st year with the net (ESPN). SPORTING NEWS' Michael McCarthy wrote it is a "smart move by ESPN to send a message to long-time viewers that it's still committed to building-block personalities such as Vitale," who joined ESPN after its founding in '79. Keeping the 77-year old Vitale front and center on its college basketball coverage will "provide continuity with fans" (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 5/22).
