Cowboys Training Camp Staying In Oxnard, Calif., As Team Re-Ups Contract With City

The Cowboys and city of Oxnard, Calif., have agreed to a two-year contract extension, putting to rest any idea that the team "might stay at home for training camp now that they have moved" into their new HQ at The Star in Frisco, according to Clarence Hill Jr. of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. The Cowboys have "long maintained an interest in continuing to train in California" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 5/23). In Dallas, Brandon George reports the Oxnard City Council unanimously approved the extension with the Cowboys last week to host training camp practices there in '17 and '18. The extension also "included a two-year option," which could have the Cowboys back in Oxnard in '19 and '20. This will be the 12th time since '01 that the Cowboys have held "at least part" of their training camp in the city. Oxnard Mayor Tim Flynn said that the new two-year contract is "structured in a way that will allow Oxnard to make a small profit (about $9,000) for the first time" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 5/23).

IN IT TOGETHER: In Ft. Worth, David Humphrey noted Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones and Pro Football HOFer Roger Staubach are "combining on plans to build a 17-story luxury residential tower at The Star in Frisco." Dallas-based developer Robert Shaw is also "part of the joint venture." The Frisco high-rise is "being developed by Columbus Realty" with construction set to "break ground" in January '18 (STAR-TELEGRAM.com, 5/19).
