Univ. Of Texas Selects ANC For Upgrade To "Godzillatron" Video Board At Football Stadium

The Univ. of Texas has selected N.Y.-based signage company ANC to upgrade Royal-Memorial Stadium’s "gargantuan 'Godzillatron' video board with a fresh, ultramodern display," according to Nick Moyle of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS. In recent years, ANC has been contracted by the Mariners, Dodgers, Pacers, Titans and Heat (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 5/23). SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Michael Smith notes the size of UT's video board -- 55.85 feet high by 134.4 feet wide -- "will not change, keeping it the fourth-largest board among college football stadiums." ANC is working with Mitsubishi Electric, which will "manufacture the new video board." ANC officials said that the 16mm display with more than 2.7 million physical pixels "will be the largest of its kind in college athletics at that quality level." The new boards also will "create new advertising and sponsorship inventory" for UT's multimedia rights partner, IMG College, to sell. ANC eventually will have "someone in Austin full time to manage the relationship" with UT. The $4.5M price tag on the project also "covers a video board and scoreboard for the newly constructed tennis facility." As part of the deal, ANC will work with UT's production team to "create content and operate the displays on game day and for other live events." Completion on the project is "expected by late July" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 5/22 issue).
