A's Halt Monthly $19.99 Digital Ballpark Pass Just One Week After Launch

The A’s $19.99 digital Ballpark Pass, "launched just last Thursday, will stop being sold by the club" as of tomorrow at 5:00pm PT, according to John Hickey of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. A's VP/Communications & Community Relations Catherine Aker said that by tomorrow, "about 2,000 plans will have been sold" for the month of June. Subscriptions for July, August and September will "go on sale later." Fans "have the option of dropping the subscription, which will then go into a pool for the next month for sale to others." Aker said, "In terms of staffing and fan experience, that’s what we feel comfortable doing. In terms of sales, it’s been a great success.” When the plan was "unveiled May 10, there was no mention of a sales deadline," and the club "seems to have been caught a little by surprise by the warm reception the plan received" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 5/16). Aker: "We did not plan to limit sales so quickly. We didn’t know what to expect and we’ve received tremendous success with the pass since it launched last week. Since this is a new product, we wanted to roll it out in a way where we can make sure we provide good customer service and experience for fans" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 5/16).
