Media Notes

In West Palm Beach, Dave George writes word is that ESPN "can’t wait" for Alabama football coach Nick Saban to "stop coaching some day so they can get the old sourpuss into the booth for the Saturday afternoon college football game of the week." That may "not sound like a perfect fit, but surely Saban would be less wooden" than Ohio State coach Urban Meyer used to be in that job, and more informative than Lou Holtz, a "natural entertainer who came off as inarticulate while being overworked on that college scoreboard studio show" (PALM BEACH POST, 5/11).

OUT OF THE LIMELIGHT: In Akron, Nate Ulrich notes the Browns have never been featured on HBO's "Hard Knocks," and the team's Exec VP/Football Operations Sashi Brown is "just fine with that." Brown said, "There's an intimacy to what we do that doesn't belong on television. That's just me." He added, "Hard Knocks does a great job of working with the team to make sure they can protect some of that information. But it would take a lot of convincing for me to sign on to it. At some the point, the league may force it on us. Right now, teams have volunteered to do it. That’s the way that’s happened, so I’ll leave it at that" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 5/11).
