Minding My Business: Twitter Global Head Of Sports Partnerships Laura Froelich

Name: Laura Froelich

Position: Twitter Global Head of Sports Partnerships

Where I’m from: N.Y.

Where I call home: S.F.

Focusing on right now: In Q1 we had more than 800 hours of live streaming video and over half of that -- 51% -- was premium sports content. So my focus is to bring the most compelling content to Twitter for fans and get distribution and revenue for our partners. We’re focused on content innovation. This weekend at The Players we’re live streaming the 17th island green in 360 degrees.

Best advice: One of my mantras is “you never get what you don’t ask for.” Sometimes people don’t ask for things because they have preconceived notions about how the request will be received, but really holding back is a missed opportunity.

Exec I admire: I have incredible respect for NBA Commissioner ADAM SILVER. He is an extremely smart, thoughtful leader who has done a great job managing their challenges and opportunities. They’ve grown a terrific global presence. They’ve also been one of our most progressive sports partners on Twitter and I’d say that’s thanks in part to Adam’s leadership.

A must for a new hire: Someone who is incredibly curious and eager to learn and wants to raise their hand for the projects that no one else wants to tackle.

Book shelf: The best book I’ve read recently is the “THE REAL MADRID WAY.” It’s a terrific profile about how the club has become one of the most successful sports franchises in the world based on their laser focus on their values and culture.

Must-have music: I have a lot of pop and classic rock. If you look at my top 25 most played, there’s probably a lot of BEYONCE in there. There’s a lot of BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. It runs the gamut.

First thing in the morning: The first thing I do is check Twitter. We’ve launched some new product changes over the past years, and most recently we added a feature called, “While you were away.” With the millions of tweets that are posted, you can’t obviously consume every single tweet and you’re going to miss some while you’re away from Twitter.

Food for thought: I love seeking out new restaurants, and my friends rely on me so much for restaurant recommendations that for a while I was making Google Maps for all my favorite restaurants. So when people would say, “I need a recommendation for a restaurant,” I would send them the map.

Talking tech: I have a huge TV in my living room because I’m such a big sports fan, but what people may be surprised about is that I have not only one but three TVs in my living room. So I have multiple screens to watch in conjunction to what’s happening on TV. The best example is probably during NFL season. We’ll have the Jets game on one TV. We’ll have the Red Zone channel on another TV, and then typically, especially if it’s October, we might have baseball on the third TV.

How I unwind: I have been taking yoga class with the same instructor for about 15 years. Her name is CURRIE MCLAUGHLIN. She’s amazing. I go to her class on Saturday mornings, and then I typically meet up with my husband and some of our friends at our golf club for brunch.

Day in the life: No day is typical. More often than not, I am traveling the globe. I meet with our content partners all over the world to understand what their goals are and talk to them about how Twitter can help them reach even larger audiences and drive revenue and do super innovative things.
