It appears Oklahoma State "has identified" Texas Tech Deputy AD Chad Weiberg as the "eventual successor" to AD Mike Holder, according to Bill Haisten of the TULSA WORLD. OSU on Thursday "reported the hiring of Weiberg" as its new Deputy AD. Sources said that Weiberg is also "considered the athletic director-in-waiting." It "appears Weiberg will work as the No. 2 person in the athletic department until Holder decides to roll into retirement." After Holder’s most recent contract expired in June '16, he is "working on a year-to-year basis." His '16-17 salary "amounts to $644,372." After graduating from OSU in '94, Weiberg was "employed in the university’s athletic department" until '04. Fundraising is a "Holder strength and, reportedly, a Weiberg strength" as well. Weiberg has been at Texas Tech the past two years (TULSA WORLD, 5/5). In Oklahoma City, John Helsley noted Weiberg before moving to Tech in '15 "spent nine years at Kansas State, where he more than doubled K-State's donor base." K-State completed more than $190M "worth of comprehensive facility improvements during Weiberg's tenure, highlighted by the Vanier Football Complex and West Stadium Center at Bill Snyder Family Stadium." K-State also "updated and upgraded its basketball training facility" (NEWSOK.com, 5/4).
