Franchise Notes

The AP's Jon Krawczynski noted former NBAer Kevin Garnett believes that "promises were broken" with the T'Wolves, and he left the team last summer after a "tense buyout negotiation" with Owner Glen Taylor. When late T'Wolves President of Basketball Operations and coach Flip Saunders traded for Garnett in '15, the two talked about Garnett "eventually becoming a minority owner." It "remains unclear just what Garnett was promised." League rules "prevented Taylor from negotiating any kind of ownership stakes with Garnett while he was still playing and their relationship was already frayed from Garnett's first exit" in '07 when he was traded (AP, 4/18).

WHERE TO GO NOW? In Indianapolis, Gregg Doyel writes the Pacers have been "mediocre for three years now," and their problems "begin" with President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. The Pacers were swept in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs by the Cavaliers. Bird has "constructed a team with a bleak present, an ominous future, and little to use as trade bait to fix it fast" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 4/25).

RUSS TO JUDGEMENT: In Buffalo, Tim Graham writes Buffalo fans "rush to blame" Bills and Sabres President Russ Brandon for "every problem facing" the teams. However, with three NFL teams relocating over the past 14 months, "consider the job Brandon did to keep the Bills in Western New York." Brandon "maintained" the Bills while the late Ralph Wilson "was an absentee owner." Sources said that the Sabres' business practices also "have improved under Brandon" (BUFFALO NEWS, 4/25).

ON THE PROWL: In Nashville, Joe Rexrode writes there are "special things happening with the Predators organization, on the ice and in the city." The "best business year" in Predators history also "increases the potential of more runs" deep into the Stanley Cup Playoffs (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 4/25).
