Yankees Hope To Cater To More Families With Offseason Upgrades To Ballpark

The Yankees on Tuesday in a media tour unveiled Yankee Stadium’s new features, which "include a picnic area, refreshment terraces, charging stations for personal devices, a lounge equipped with televisions tuned to other sports events, and a children’s playground complete with breast-feeding facilities," according to Filip Bondy of the N.Y. TIMES. Yankees officials said that the idea is to "offer more options and to cater more to families," in response to surveys "sent out during the past few seasons." Yankees VP/Ticket Sales, Service & Operations Kevin Dart said the survey answers "have been pretty consistent." He noted that fans "want more family-oriented areas." The official Yankees website is "selling a $45 Pinstripe Pass" for the home opener against the Rays on Monday. One of the new features to the ballpark is the removal of "obstructed-view bleacher seats in left and right fields" to make way for "concrete terraces that sell mixed drinks" (N.Y. TIMES, 4/5). On Long Island, Ryan Gerbosi noted the new amenities and enhancements to the Yankees' gameday experience are "highlighted by various social gathering spaces accessible to all ticketed fans on multiple levels." Yankees Senior VP/Stadium Operations Doug Behar said that the enhancements have "been in development for the past year." The Sunrun Kids Clubhouse is a 2,850-square foot area in the 300-level that "includes a playground and interactive exhibits." Among the most visible changes to the ballpark are "new gathering spaces in the centerfield bleachers." The new AT&T Sports Lounge featuring DirecTV service will "serve as a sports bar for fans keeping an eye on games outside the stadium" (NEWSDAY, 4/5). In N.Y., Dimon & Greene noted people attending Yankee Stadium can "expect a new lineup at the stadium concession stands this year with fare that includes fresh mozzarella sandwiches, meatloaf burgers and a single Brontosaurus rib that will run you $38" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/5).
